Archives of the People shares Zanesville’s legacy

ZANESVILLE, OH- The fourth volume of Archives of the People has been officially released, and just in time for Black History Month.
Archives of the People is a book series containing information on different Black residents from the Zanesville community. The Minority Business Resource Network started this project two years ago as a way to preserve the legacy of those who helped shape Zanesville.
“Well, it is very important because in any community the majority is going to document and dictate the community history, and so in the black community it isn’t documented anywhere in our community and if you don’t know where you’ve been, you don’t know where you’re going,” said Ernest Bynum, the Executive Director for the Minority Business Resource Network.
In celebration of volume four being released, the Minority Business Resource Network held an event today with free food and guest speakers who each had inspiring stories about their lives to tell.
“To learn about people that I should have known about and I didn’t, and to find out there is some really wonderful people through Zanesville and who have done some really remarkable things that have made it easier for me to do the things that I’ve done in my life, and they were like the stepping stones that led me to where I am at today, so it’s been an interesting adventure,” said Flora Martin, a Minority Business Resource Network Board Member when asked what her favorite part of working on this project has been.
If you are interested in getting a copy of the latest volume of Archives of the People or becoming involved with the project, all you have to do is reach out to someone on the Minority Business Resource Network Zanesville Facebook page. The books are free and contain lots of interesting information about those who came before you in the community.
