ZANESVILLE,Ohio- It’s been a labor of love for one local woman who along with help from her family is repurposing an old fire house off of maple avenue in Zanesville.

You may see an old rundown building, but what Ashley Moyer sees is a future space for her business. Moyer is turning the old fire house number 3 on Forest Avenue into Ashley Moyer Interior Design Studio. Moyer is trying to salvage all the original flooring, walls, doors, and finishings.

“We’ve finished the floor recently,” Moyer said. “We picked up every brick and cleaned them, scraped them, sanded and put them back down.”

Moyer said they are in phase two of construction for the building measuring at more than 4,000 square feet. This old fire house first opened back in the 1900’s. Moyer explained why she chose to repurpose an old building instead of buying a building that’s already ready to set up shop.

“I always wanted to save something. So when I saw this one for the first time I fell in love with it. I just love the character of an old space rather than a new construction,” Moyer said.

Moyer said construction is slated to be completed in the next six months.
