Assisting Adulthood Literacy
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Literacy skills are not like riding a bike but are something that need to be used often to maintain peak performance.
Muskingum County Library System Marketing and Community Relations Director Sean Fennell shared an upcoming event that will assist adults who could use help with improving or understanding the terminology used on applications, forms and documents.
“We really have a wonderful opportunity coming up at our mall outreach stop location coming up on February 6th and March 6th, as well, from 11 a.m. to 12 and those are the open literacy hours for adults. This is an opportunity for adults to be able to just drop in and speak with Monica Quinn, our Adult Literacy Specialist. And she can help you do a variety of things,” Fennell said.
The MCLS mall location is located in the food court inside of the Colony Square Mall and is open on Thursdays and occasionally on Saturdays to assist patrons during the John McIntire Library remodel and reach out to a segment of the population that may not frequent the downtown.
“Monica Quinn is our Adult Literacy Specialist,” Fennell said. “She is incredible and she’s putting on all these programs and she is really the heart behind a lot of what we’re doing with the adult literacy program right now. We all are on board helping and working towards this goal but she is definitely the front line and the person you will be working with, hopefully when you join the program.”
The Adult Literacy Program deals with issues across the literacy spectrum, from maintaining reading understanding and comprehension to building new skill sets. To learn more about the MCLS Adult Literacy program, you can call (740) 453-0391 ext. 162.
