Autism awareness walk in Zanesville Saturday

One organization hopes to fill downtown Zanesville with walkers to raise awareness for autism.

Director of Hope to the Rescue, Cheryl Coles, said everyone is welcome to participate in the walk Saturday morning. There is no set distance for the walk. She said some people can walk the whole downtown, just a few blocks or if you can’t walk, you can just come on down and grab a seat to support the cause.

“We want to fill up downtown Zanesville for awareness for autism,” Coles said. “We want to raise awareness for autism. We want to fill up bodies in downtown Zanesville, so people can say ‘what’s going on downtown?’ And we can say ‘this is autism awareness.'”

Coles said the first part of the walk will have informational posters up so that people can learn more about autism.

“We’re raising awareness for autism,” she said. “This is autism awareness month. We want to educate people, we want to share with people in the community that may be on the [Autism Spectrum Disorders.”

Registration for the walk starts at 10:30 Saturday morning. Coles said they’ll have food, balloons, and a Chinese auction. Also, anyone participating in the walk will receive an autism bracelet.
