Baker Named ZAAP Gallery Artist of the Month

ZANESVILLE, OH – Jennifer Johnston Baker has been named the ZAAP Gallery’s Artist of the Month for April.

Baker’s love of creating started at a young age and has followed her ever since. Baker said her art helps as a distraction to everything else going on around her.

“It was just fun and the outcome was always, to other people and to me, is amazing,” Baker said. “It’s like ‘You did that?’, and I said yes, and kept doing it.”

Baker describes herself as a futuristic surrealist and detailed how she creates her works. She said when she creates a piece, she starts with a sketch, usually in a church bulletin. Baker then takes the sketch and turns it into a collage, but she isn’t finished yet. She will take the collage and use oil paints to a canvas to create a larger image. Baker said it was a true honor to be named Artist of the Month at the ZAAP Gallery.

“There are so many quality painters, sketchers, collagists and sculptures, I mean all the artisans and members of this co-op are really fine artists,” Baker said. “And I think it’s really an honorable opportunity.”

The ZAAP Gallery is located at 625 Main Street if you would like to see Baker’s work during the First Friday Artwalk.
