Barbershop Chorus Makes Beautiful Music

Blended harmonies and lovely choruses are ringing out of Grace United Methodist Church.

The Y-City Barbershop Chorus is practicing for their annual barbershop show. The show is September 26th at Secrest Auditorium and will feature the Y-City Barbershop Chorus along with guest quartets.

“We have two guest quartets, roaring twenties quartet, which is an older quartet, but they are really good and they have also medaled in past years. We have a young quartet that we got and called ‘Prestige’ and they just recently won a medal this year in Anaheim in our convention,” tells Lowell Thomas the President of the Y-City Barbershop Chorus.

Thomas has been singing in barbershop quartets for 36 years and he says the men in the Y-City Barbershop Chorus are from all walks of life. The group also competes and placed 8th in their district which Thomas says is an honor. Many of the men joined the Y-City Barbershop Chorus just because they liked to sing.

“We love singing, especially in four part harmony, unaccompanied and that is not a simple thing to do sometimes. To stay in pitch, sound good and sing from the heart, tell the story and people really enjoy that I think,” says Thomas.

Tickets will cost $12 for adults and $6 for children if ordered in advance. For more information about joining the Y-City Barbershop Chorus or to purchase tickets call (740) 452-6594.
