Bid Opening Held For Avondale Sanitary Sewer Project

A bid opening for the Avondale Sanitary Sewer Project was held at the Muskingum County Commissioners office Thursday.

Project Director of Muskingum County, Don Madden told us for these types of projects, the bids are based off of an engineers estimate. This particular project was estimated at $2.4 million. Madden told us a little bit more about the ongoing repairs.

“This is a project actually to replace a failing septic system or a failing sewer system that still maintains septic tanks for the homeowners. It’s one where we’re receiving a lot of inflow, whether that be rainwater getting into the system and so this is to establish a true gravity sewer for the customers.”

Four bids were opened Thursday. Madden says the plan going forward is to refer the bids to the engineer who will review all of the paperwork and check for errors. The engineer will then make a recommendation to the county as to who will be awarded the project. When the bid is awarded to the contractor, the project could take an estimated nine months to complete.
