Bid Openings for County Road Paving

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Commissioners received two bids on May 25, 2017 for their ‘County Road Resurfacing Program’
Muskingum County Engineers Office’s Administrative Deputy, Matt Russell presented the bids from Shelly & Sands Inc. and The Shelly Company. The estimated cost for the road resurfacing with asphalt is $336,251.00 and the motorpave will estimate $649,75.00.

“One project we have is straight asphalt resurfacing, which is the hot mix you see on most of the streets you’re familiar with,” Russell said. “That people are familiar with and then the second is what we call a motorpave and that is more of a cold mix paving we do on some of our rural roots and put a chip and seal over it.”
Shelly & Sands Inc. is requesting $324,633.40 for the asphalt resurfacing and had no bid for the motorpaving. The Shelly Company requested $329,734.60 for the asphalt resurfacing and $634,803.25 for the motorpave resurfacing.
The project deadline is slated for September 15, 2017 with the paperwork being completed in a few weeks. Arch Hill Road, Fultonrose, Lambert Road, and Bald Hill will be motorpaved while North Dietz Road and Boggs Road will have asphalt treatment.
“We go out and we do what’s called a P.C.R. Pavement Condition Rating of the roads and they receive scores based on how bad they are deteriorated and that’s how we pick the roadways and of course traffic count comes into play,” Russell said. “So the higher the traffic volume on the road you know the more apt it is to move a little higher on the list.”
Russell said they’ll have close to 15 miles of paving for the six roads selected. Now the Muskingum County Commissioners and Muskingum County Engineers Office will need to study the bids and award the selected company by the end of next week.
