Black History Celebration at Stone Academy

In honor of Black History Month the Putnam Underground Railroad Education Center at Stone Academy is hosting a weekly Black History Month program.

Stone Academy is one of the most historic buildings in Zanesville, making it the perfect place for a Black History celebration. Sunday’s events included presentations from Reverend Clifton Kilpatrick, Dr. Keith Brantley, and Kathy Brantley. Also in attendance was the St. Paul AME Church Male Choir who filled the building with song.

“Well it’s American history, and that is the reason why we want to celebrate. Embrace the contributions that have been made, and why not do it at Stone Academy the definite place where the Appellations gathered for their first convention to end slavery,” said Kathy Brantley.

If you missed Sunday’s event you haven’t completely missed out. According to Brantley every Sunday through February at Stone Academy there will be a special presentation.

“Because it’s Black History Month every Sunday from 3-4 we will have a special presentation on black history. We want to celebrate the history that minorities have brought to the United States, and we want to share with others our enjoyment of celebrating this particular month.”
