Blessing Boxes for the Less Fortunate

Local students are taking a class project to another level by blessing the community.
Students from the Mid-East Early Childhood Education Program are teaming up with Christ’s Table and the Salvation Army to provide boxes filled with basic necessities to help the needy.
“Mid-East students has come together and came up with the idea that they want to put together what we call ‘Blessing Boxes.’ In these blessing boxes we’re looking to put in hats, gloves, scarfs, blankets and different hygiene products such as toilet paper, paper towels. We also, want to put some canned good items in there. Also, different things such as body wash, soap and shampoo. Different things that people need on a daily basis,” said Dustin Redmond.
Their goal is to make between 60 to 90 blessing boxes. Where the size of each box varies based on the size of the family. The students said they want to go beyond a class project and really make a difference.
“It makes me really happy, like i’m glad that we decided that this is our project that we wanted to do. After we’re finished we want to come back and still come to the Salvation Army and help serve and everything,” said Shelbie O’Neal.
“We actually want to make a change in someone’s life,” said Tori Dennis.
There will be a sign up sheet each day this week at the salvation army between 4 p.m to 5-30 p.m during the community dinner and the boxes will be distributed January 29th at 4 p.m.
