Blue Rock State Park

BLUE ROCK, Ohio – Blue Rock State Park is a quiet little spot where people can enjoy the outdoors without spending all day to get there.
Ohio Department of Natural Resources Park Manager Dave Finley shared what opportunities that Blue Rock State Park has to offer.
“We have swimming, camping, equestrian trails to ride on. We do not provide horses for people to ride, they bring in their own. We have an archery range. We have three and a half miles of hiking trails. The most popular activities that people come here for are the swimming beach, using the beach on hot days, fishing and camping,” Finley said.
The 322 acre park is centered around a 15 acre lake and is conjoined with the 4,500 acre Blue Rock State Forest, which combined, offers nearly 30 miles of equestrian trails. Boating is available for small, human or electric powered watercraft and the camping spaces provide a picnic table and fire ring for primitive camping.
“What’s special about this park is the lack of accessibility to technology. The cell phone service is not very reliable out here. So it kind of forces families to unplug and enjoy the outdoors, view the wildlife and take in the beautiful surroundings that are provided to us here at Blue Rock State Park,” Finley said.
People do need to reserve campsites and part of Blue Rock State Park is seasonal. The lower camp and the Sherman cabins are open year-round but the camp store, upper camp and the shelter houses, including the shower house are not. For more information you can visit them online. Blue Rock State Park is located at 7924 Cutler Lake Road, Blue Rock, OH 43720.
