Board of Elections names new Executive Director
A multi-month search for a new executive director of the Muskingum County Board of Elections came to a close this week.
The board selected Timothy Thompson as the new director. Currently, he is a math teacher at the Zanesville Christian School. The chairman of the board, Jack Boyd, said Thompson fits the description of what the board was searching for to replace Chris Hamill.
“We were looking for someone who was organized, would be dedicated to the position, willing to work with others, play well with others,” Boyd said. “We also wanted somebody who was not just a delegator but somebody that was a doer.”
Although he’s coming from outside the office, Boyd said Thompson has a good team surrounding him. His new deputy has years of experience with the Board of Elections. Marlee Gibson has been with the board since 2007 and as deputy, Boyd said she will be able to use her experience to guide Thompson through the transition.
“One thing we were looking at is since the director was going to be completely new, we needed somebody with experience in the office to assist in that position,” Boyd said.
Though the county board has announced Thompson and Gibson, the State Board of Elections still needs to approve the appointments. However, Boyd said that should happen within the next week or two.
