Boy Scouts Gear Up for Fall with Recruitment Event and Popcorn Sale
ZANESVILLE, OH – The Boy Scouts of America are gearing up for a busy fall.
To kick off the start of fall, the Boy Scouts will be hosting a recruitment event on September 8th from 1 to 4PM at McDonald’s Farm.
Zechariah Bauer, the Vice President of Marketing at the Muskingum Valley Council, says this event is meant to show kids of all ages what Scouting is all about and what they can offer.
“Scouting has been around for over 100 years and it is still instilling the oath and the law, the values,” Bauer said. “The other thing that it does is it teaches leadership skills, it allows youth to try new things, things they wouldn’t normally do. It allows them to provide service to others, we do a lot of community service work, so getting out in the community and seeing how things work.”
Bauer says another benefit of joining Scouting is it helps to build self confidence as well as long lasting connections.
The Boy Scouts annual fall Popcorn Sale also kicked off on August 1st and will run through September.
“Look for the Scouts out in the community,” Bauer said. “We’re going to be at show and sales, at Rural King and Lowe’s and other places like that in the community. You may get a Scout knocking on the door, and you know 70% of all the money that comes in for popcorn, goes right back into local Scouting so your small purchase helps tremendously.”
