Buckeye Lake Dam Repairs To Start Sooner

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says work to fix the troubled Buckeye Lake Dam could begin sooner than first thought. Members of the Ohio House Buckeye Lake Caucus were told by O-D-N-R Director James Zehringer that repairs on the dam could begin in the summer of 2016. That is about a year ahead of previous estimates. The design for the reconstructed dam will begin this summer, finished by spring and then start next summer. The lake remains and winter level and will remain that way until repairs are completed. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has also offered the Millersport Fire Department two jet boats that can assist crews with fire and emergencies on the lake. Meanwhile concerns are now growing at the lake after algae blooms has started forming on the lake, must earlier than in past years. Tests are being done to determine the safety risks of the blooms.
