Buckeyes Open Preseason Camp with Revamped Offense

COLUMBUS, OH

Football is back and so are the Buckeyes over in Columbus, with preseason camp finally getting underway on campus. In the midst of many changes to the program from a year ago, one thing’s for sure: Ohio State football is back and ready to go for 2024.

Starting quarterback Will Howard and the Buckeyes were back out there for the first day of preseason camp, as he and his teammates were all smiles in Columbus. Howard, along with TreVeyon Henderson and the rest of the Buckeyes ramped up workouts and drills before a scrimmage later on, as the team gears up for opening day at the end of the month. Coming off a loss to Michigan and a loss in the Cotton Bowl to end their 2023 campaign, head coach Ryan Day understands that there is much to learn from a season ago.

“You learn a lot every year, and I think the thing for us that, you know, we’ve talked to our team about and we’ll continue to is that every year you have to rebuild and, you know, what we call it, we’re calling them bricks. There’s bricks in the foundation” said Day.

Plenty of notable changes to the team this year, including the new starting quarterback and revamped running back room with Qunishon Judkins to go along with a well renowned offensive coordinator in Chip Kelly.

Camp might have just opened up, but there’s plenty to like about the Buckeyes heading into the 2024 season.

Day continued: “I think the foundation up until this point has been excellent from, you know, when it started at the end of the season till now. But preseason is going to be a critical part of this and it’s got to be physical. Guys got to have an edge to them. But this is what everything else is built on, and today’s just the first day. But we know it’s going to be, you know, a long road to the end of the season. Football’s still football. That hasn’t changed, and we can’t lose focus on that, and that’s what being in the preseason is all about. Like, all that other stuff goes to the side. Put the football down, and let’s see if we can play with fundamentals and toughness.”

Still plenty of work to do for Day and company with three more days of camp as the Buckeyes want to impress their fans before the season officially begins. The countdown is certainly on until the Buckeyes open up against Akron on August 31st at the “Shoe”.
