Byesville Gears up for Outdoorsmen Rendezvous
BYESVILLE, OH – A new event is inviting families to step outdoors and put their outdoor skills to the test.
The Guernsey County Outdoor Heritage Association is hosting its inaugural Outdoorsmen Rendezvous at the Jackson Park in Byesville. The day will feature outdoor vendors, knife makers, clothing and jewelry, desserts, a fish fry, and even a beer garden. There will also be plenty of educational competitions.
“We’re going to have animal identification and tree identification that the Division of Forestry is going to help with. We’re also going to have a casting accuracy challenge. And these competitions are something all ages can do.” President of the GC Outdoor Heritage Association, Zack Kirkman, said.
Organizers say the event reflects the rural and agricultural traditions already rooted throughout Guernsey County.
“Guernsey County is kind of about agriculture, and they like the rural things, and that’s what we’re doing. We meet people, they’re like-minded, and so they’re all kind of bringing a lot of extra stuff to the table.” Mariah Kirkman, Treasurer of the GC Outdoor Heritage Association, said.
Along with celebrating the outdoors, organizers hope the rendezvous becomes another tradition that helps the Byesville community flourish.
“Recently, we’ve had a lot more businesses downtown. Festivals like this, along with the Jonathan Bye Days and anything else we can bring here, is just going to be a plus for the community.” GC Outdoor Heritage Association Council Member, Stacy Bright, said.
The Outdoorsmen Rendezvous is Saturday, September 12th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is one dollar, while children 10 and younger veterans, and first responders get in free. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Meadowbrook F-F-A chapter.
