ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Creative Artists, Stimulating Success is an educational and fun experience that local students are currently participating in.

“I love music, acting, and drama,” camper Alex Dilbeck said. “So this was perfect for me.”

C.A.S.S. Camp has hit its half way point and the students are busy learning about music, art, and business. During the day the campers have a schedule where they’ll learn music and dance in sections and end the day with fun activities.

“It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it in the end,” Co-Director Kayla Friihauf said. “We usually finish out the evening by doing fun activities. Believe it or not those activities are getting you ready for that concert. Some of them are ice-breakers, they’re building confidence. So really every aspect of everyday is getting you ready for that finally.”

C.A.S.S. Camp C.E.O. Dr. Cassandra McDonald said they’ll also take time out of their music and art to focus on business.

“They’re having such a good time of instruction and learning with the arts and with business, because this is business, art, and music,” Dr. McDonald said. “So if you’re not a musician it doesn’t matter. There’s so many things we do learning how to stand, how to read proper, how to do resumes, how to speak, and everyone at some point has to have a face-to-face interview.”

“The business aspect of this camp is preparing you for really any part of life,” Friihauf said. “It’s important that you know how to professionally respond [in interviews] without being so nervous. So I think it’s preparing you for a lot of different things, jobs and all kinds of opportunities.”

Friihauf started as a camper ten years ago, while Alex Dilbeck started attending last year and out of the 15 year span C.A.S.S. Camp has gained a connection through the past and present campers by helping them find their confidence.

“I was extremely happy, a tiny bit nervous more excited than anything else,” said Dilbeck.

“Well it’s definitely a life changing experience,” Friihauf said. “You really don’t think that a camp is going to have so much impact you know, but it really does. Like you come up with this self-esteem that you never knew you had. You go back to school feeling better and you go back home feeling better.

C.A.S.S. Camp went from having six campers last year to now having 16. Dr. McDonald said it’s thanks to the campers and the staff for inviting students in the community. Doctor McDonald acknowledges that scholarships provided by the community members and businesses have also greatly impacted their attendance this year.

C.A.S.S. Camp is held at the Zanesville Girls Scout Service Center located on Bowers Lane. C.A.S.S. Camp will finish with a final concert on Wednesday June 21, 2017 at 7:00 P.M. For more information go to the Camp’s website, casscamprocks.com
