Camp Wheeze-Away

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Breathing troubles can be more frightening for healthy parents than the children who are experiencing the symptoms.
Each summer, Rambo Memorial Health Center hosts a summer camp for children who have been diagnosed with asthma and Executive Director Shannon Bell says it’s not too late to sign up for this year’s event.
“So once again this year, Rambo Health Center is putting on Asthma Camp,” Bell said. “This is an annual event that we look forward to every year. It is June 23rd and June 24th. Our camp is absolutely free. Our whole goal is to help kids with asthma know that they are not limited. Sometimes there’s a stigma behind asthma that you can’t do all the things that you want to do and we want to show kids and help them to learn that they can do anything that they want to do, even though they have asthma.”
The two day event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and offer plenty of fun and excitement, while demonstrating that asthma doesn’t have to hold you back.
“We do swimming, we do hiking, we do gem mining, which was a huge hit last year, the kids loved that. We do a picnic lunch and guess what, we learn all about asthma. On day two we’re back here at Rambo. The Zanesville Fire Department comes here The Coca-Cola semi comes here and the funnest thing for the kids is they get to go bowling in the afternoon. And again, we sneak in some education for them,” Bell said.
Camp Wheeze-Away is for kids aged from 7 to 12, who have been diagnosed with asthma. They can also bring a friend who doesn’t have asthma. You can register by calling or visiting the clinic, or online at rambomemorialhealthcenter.org.
