Carr Center Cake Auction Wraps Up
ZANESVILLE, OH – Sweet treats and heartfelt generosity filled the air at the Colony Square Mall today during the Carr Center’s Cake Auction.
The final day of the annual Cake Auction was nothing short of sweet sensation, with over 300 cakes on display to be auctioned off. With a successful close of this year’s auction, all proceeds will go directly to supporting the vital work of the Carr Center.
“It’s been going wonderfully. I’m completely overwhelmed, in a good way. I’m going to cry. The community support from the people who come out to support us, it’s just wonderful,” Carr Center Executive Director Katie Graham said.
This year was particularly special as it marked the auction’s return to the mall. The decision to return to the mall was met with overwhelming support, promising another sweet gathering at the Colony Square Mall next year.
“It feels like we never left to be honest. It feels great. There are so many more community members coming out to see the cakes. There’s moms with their strollers and their kids. It’s been wonderful,” Graham said.
Jay Benson, the station manager at W-H-I-Z, expressed his pride in continuing to support the cake auction, emphasizing the importance of local events in the community.
“I would like to give accolades to Marquee, our current owners, who have allowed us and encouraged us to continue to do those things that are important for the community,” Benson said. “It’s not always a given when broadcast companies are taken over. Sometimes, a lot of things like this go away. Our owners have been very supportive of everything we do with and for this community.”
This year’s Carr Center cake auction raised $142,530.
