The Carr Center is hosting their annual Safety Town Program for kids ages four and five.

The cost of the program is $35 per child and the goal of the program is to teach children valuable life skills when it comes to topics such as crossing the street, riding a bike, and how to interact with First Responders.

“Every night of the week, Monday through Fridays, 6-7:30 p.m., the children come for one week every summer. We take ages 4 and 5 usually. We did take some six year old’s this year because of Covid. We are teaching them all sorts of valuable life skills like how to safely cross the street, we fit them for a bike helmet, they also get an ID card, so mom and dad have their picture and details at all times. And then they also learn things like gun safety, water safety, how to get on the school bus, all those valuable things that we take for granted every single day to keep our kids safe,” said Carr Center Executive Director Becky Clawson.

The program has received positive feedback from some of the participants parents which has led to some of their kids siblings being enrolled as well.

“I actually heard from a mom this morning who her daughter is going this year. Her son went two years ago and he has been telling his sister all about the awesome things that he got to do. Especially, they really love the police and firemen. So our Muskingum County Sheriff’s office comes and also our Zanesville Fire Department comes and the kids always love that interaction with them,” Clawson added.
