“Cash For Clunkers” Ends Monday

The popular government program, “Cash for Clunkers”, is coming to an end Monday. Since the program started last month there have been over 410,000 clunker deals. That is around $1.7 billion dollars in rebates. Local dealers are awaiting their payments from the government.

“We have not received any money yet from the government, but we are anticipating probably somewhere in the next two weeks they will start sending money out to us,” tells Dave Wallace of Dutro Ford.

Cars that average under 18 miles per gallon are eligible to be turned in for a $3500 to $4500 rebate toward a fuel efficient car. Sales people at Dutro Ford say this program has had a positive effect on the auto market.

“Its got people back in the market again, it should create jobs as far as assembly line workers back to work, transportation as far as transporting vehicles, I think it has been positive. Any time you get people out spending money it definitely helps the economy.”

The program ends officially Monday night at 8 pm.
