Cats for Adoption: Foster Homes Needed
When summer comes around, the Animal Shelter Society is ambushed by cats looking to be adopted. And to encourage adoption, all cats have a reduced price all summer.
The shelter is also searching for people willing to foster kittens until they are big enough to be housed at the shelter. Executive Director, Jody Murray, said it’s a short term commitment and the shelter provides every foster home with the necessary items to house a kitten.
“We’re just trying to be as proactive as we can, try to stay ahead of the game, try to find as many homes for cats as we can,” he said.
Currently, there are several dozen kittens being fostered. However, Murray said they are looking for more help. If you can’t foster a cat but still want to help the shelter.
The 2nd Annual Paws and Claws Summer Jam is Saturday at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds. Murray said it’s an opportunity to enjoy a summer evening.
“For us, any money that we raise is going to be used right back here at the shelter,” Murray said. “Whether that be a few dollars or a few thousand dollars. We appreciate everything that everybody does for the shelter, and this is one of those events that we hope people come out, have a good time, hear some good music from DoubleCut and support the shelter at the same time.”
The event starts at 5:00 p.m. Saturday with DoubleCut playing at 7:00 p.m. It costs $5 to get in, and if you want to play in the 5:00 p.m. cornhole tournament, you can enter with a teammate for $20.
