ZANESVILLE, OH – It’s National Library Week which is a perfect time to celebrate the powerful role local libraries and their staff play in our everyday lives.

While the John McIntire Library has been under renovation, the Muskingum County Library System has continued to expand their programs out at their branch locations so the community can still connect with Library Staff.

Stephanie Freas, the Assistant Director of the Library, says one of the ways they expanded was going beyond the books and presenting information in different ways for everyone to enjoy.

“This week we’re really excited to do a documentary screening at the Roseville Branch Library, it is called “The Librarians”, its PBS screening, and if you’ve ever wanted to be at the Library after hours, it’s on Friday at 6:30, when we close at 6.” Freas said. “We’ll have refreshments and we’ll get to watch a documentary screening about libraries, their impact on America, and how things are changing over the next couple of years and the past few years.”

Freas says there is another program going on at the Roseville Branch on Friday.

At 3:30PM before “The Librarians” screening, there will be a program called “The Incredible Journey”, hosted in conjunction with the Muskingum Soil & Water Conservation District.

Freas says kids will get ready for Earth Day by learning about the water cycle through fun games and an interactive presentation.

“Libraries are more than what we remember but they still honor what we remember.” Freas said. “So if you think about libraries, you immediately think of books, and we have thousands of thousands of books. But it’s also about connecting with people. At the end of the day anymore, when you try to find a place to go around town that’s free and has everybody, everywhere, of all ages and walks of life, it’s at the Library.”
