Celebrate Smokey Bear’s 80th Birthday at the Library

ZANESVILLE, OH – Get ready to celebrate a milestone with Smokey Bear!

The Muskingum County Library System, in partnership with the ODNR Division of Forestry, is hosting a special birthday party tomorrow, August 9th, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. All ages are invited to join in the festivities and learn about preventing wildfires while. It’s a wonderful opportunity to honor Smokey Bear’s 80 years of spreading important messages.

“There will be live readings by our professional story tellers, as well as songs and games, and possibly a craft. We hope that Smokey Bear will also be showing up and make a guest appearance,” MCLS Marketing Media Relations Director Sean Fennell said.

This celebration ties in with the library’s current reading challenge, which is also honoring Smokey Bear’s birthday.

“We just ended Summer Reading, and we want to keep people engaged, and our community engaged in reading and participating in the Beanstack App. We have another reading challenge that’s celebrating Smokey Bear’s 80th birthday where you can ready books on fire prevention, or go to different activities, earn badges. It just kind of gamifies the whole reading experience for a lot of folks, and it’s a really fun way for us to partner with the ODNR to create this really wonderful program and reading challenge,” Fennell said.

The event will take place at the John McIntire Library in Zanesville. You can register by visiting the MCLS website.
