Celebrating Heritage with Pottery
Pottery lovers from across the country are coming to Zanesville this week in search of the perfect piece for their collection.
The annual pottery week kicked off around Southeast Ohio Monday. Vice President of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce, Kelly Ashby, said the week has a great economic impact on the area. People storm in to see the dozens of scheduled and unscheduled events.
“Folks come in from all over the United States to add one more piece to their collection or complete their collection or sell their collection,” said Ashby. “It’s kind of like a family reunion. So it’s wonderful to see them checking in and then going room to room and talking and just discussing their pottery.”
Over 75 dealers will take up shop in the Holiday Inn in Zanesville. Ashby said everything is open to the public. She added that it’s a good place to not only buy or sell items but also to discuss the area’s history.
“These collectors know the history and know the heritage of the area and that’s why they continue to come here to Muskingum County because of that rich history and heritage,” said Ashby.
