Center Drive Set to Reopen by Fall
Weather seems to be the problem delaying repairs on Center Drive in Zanesville.
Public Service Director, Jay Bennett, said Shelly and Sands is under contract to pave the damaged road by September of this year. Center Drive is one of many city streets in need of repairs, but Bennett said those projects have been pushed back due to rain.
“We still have a lot of paving yet to do, it’s just been kind of wet all summer, so everything has been pushed back,” Bennett said.
The popular shortcut past Maple Avenue has been closed to thru traffic since March. Bennett said potholes aren’t the only issue, the base of the road is also failing.
“It was in just such disrepair, that’s why the council took the action, the administrations request was to do a local traffic only, pending the asphalt getting put on so that we can make it safe for people to travel, once that’s done then we’ll open it back up,” Bennett said.
City engineers are looking into reconstructing the road altogether in the coming years.
