Center for Seniors Getting Closer to Reopening
The Executive Director of the Muskingum County Center for Seniors in Muskingum County sets a tentative reopen date for the center.
After weeks of repairs, Ann Combs said if mother nature cooperates, construction could be finished by the first couple of weeks of April. Although activities cannot take place in the center until early April, Combs said the kitchen is up and running.
“The roof over our kitchen has been repaired, and we’ve been able to open our kitchen in order to continue to provide hot meals now,” Combs said. “We’re no longer doing frozen and shelf stable. We are now doing hot meals.”
As the center remains closed for activities, the county has worked out a place for this week’s Friday night dance.
“Tomorrow night, we are trying to continue our activities in various locations,” Combs said. “Tomorrow night’s dance will be held at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds. So we want to encourage everyone to come out and enjoy that event.”
The dance will begin at 7:00 p.m. Monday night at city council, the city gave the county the option to use Secrest Auditorium for activities. Combs, however, said Secrest is not conducive to activities for seniors because of the large amount of steps. So, instead of using the facility, Combs said they are pushing forward in getting back into the center as soon as possible.
