Chamber of Commerce Recounts New Businesses

Chamber Of Commerce

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-The last nine months of the COVID-19 pandemic has seen a massive growth in entrepreneurial activity across the United States.

The Muskingum County Chamber Commerce saw a local growth in keeping with national trends. On average the chamber saw six new businesses a month for the last half of 2020.

“As it first set in place, things started slowing down. Within six months, nationally, the economists started seeing a trend. The U.S. Census Bureau reported that in the third quarter of last year there were more business start-ups than ever in one quarter, which is impressive. Locally we’ve seen growth. The chamber had over seventy businesses join last year, very exciting.”, Chamber president Dana Matz explained to WHIZ.

Muskingum County saw new businesses in the retail, home improvement and consultation sectors. The County has a unique set of circumstances that lead to economic growth.

“Depends on the type of business you’re in. If you think about it from a retail standpoint we are a retail, restaurant destination area for close to eight counties. All the major arteries lead into Zanesville and Muskingum County, so just think about beyond interstate 70, route 22, route 60, route 146, they all lead here. So you’re providing services for people to come to you.”, Matz continued.

More information on these new businesses can be found on the Chamber’s website.
