Christmas Becoming More Commercial?

For many people, Christmas is a time to celebrate faith.

Area churches will be packed over the next two days as people gather for holiday masses.

"You’ve got a lot of college kids who have been away. Now they’re back in town and they come back with their families. You have a few people who don’t come to mass every Sunday but still feel the need to come on Christmas Day, " says Father Pius Pietrzyk.

Father Pius says sometimes there’s standing room only in the sanctuary, but he says the holiday is becoming more commercial now-a-days.

"This year, I think Christmas started well before Thanksgiving. So while the mind of especially the shops are on Christmas beforehand, it takes away really from the sanctity of Christmas for the right outlook for us, " says Father Pius.

Father Pius says this time of year-when we remember the birth of Jesus Christ- it is supposed to inspire us to help and to protect one another.
