Christ’s Table out of Soup

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Christ’s Table, a local non-profit that benefits the underprivileged, is in need of canned soup to serve in their kitchen.
Christ’s Table Executive Director Keely Warden recently explained the operation, the shortage and the need.
“During the week we serve a nice hot nutritious meal with all of the components. On Saturdays we are so blessed because we have volunteers from different churches that come in on Saturdays,” Warden said. “That’s how we have our doors open on Saturday. There’s no staff here. There’s no cost here. It’s all done by volunteers.”
Warden noted that she understands there are supply chain problems but during her time at Christ’s Table she has never seen the soup shelves as empty as they are now.
“It takes us about a hundred cans of soup every Saturday, which is about 400 cans a month,” Warden said. “So we need to be real specific about our ask. For the month of March and the month of April, we’re going to ask for chicken noodle soup.”
Warden stressed no preference for a specific brand, as long as it’s chicken noodle soup and that donated items can be delivered through the side entrance of their Sixth Street location.
“It’s just amazing when the community comes together, what the community can do,” Warden said.
The Christ’s Table website offers suggestions as to what and how people can donate.
“We want people to realize it’s not all about money. Money helps. It’s what keeps the lights on but it’s about the power of the volunteer too,” Warden said. “So if you’re interested and you have a couple of hours a day that you can help us out, that means as much as the dollar that comes through the door.”
Christ’s Table serves between 7,000 and 10,000 meals a month as cost efficiently as possible by accepting donations and relying on the volunteers that make it all happen.
