Cincinnati Judge Campaigns in Zanesville
A Southwest Ohio based judge planning to run for a seat on the Ohio Supreme Court made a stop in Zanesville Tuesday.
Judge Pat Fischer currently serves on the Hamilton County Court of Appeals in Cincinnati. With nearly 30 years of experience practicing law, he plans to run for a spot on the Ohio Supreme Court in 2016. The esteemed judge stopped by the Zanesville Noon Rotary Club’s weekly meeting Tuesday afternoon, to discuss why judges and courts matter to the community.
“The court judges have a lot of authority, they can actually grant a divorce, sentence somebody to death, or sentence somebody to prison, and yet a lot of people don’t even know who they are voting for, and I think it’s important that they do,” Fischer said.
Prior to becoming a judge, Fischer was a lawyer, and served as president of the Ohio State Bar Association from 2006 to 2007. He is now an Ohio Republican Party endorsed candidate for the Ohio Supreme Court, and hopes to replace Justice Lansinger who is retiring due to age requirements .
“I’m running for the Supreme Court because I believe judges should decide cases, and not legislate from the bench, and I think there’s been too much of that going on, so I’m out there everyday,” Fischer said.
Judge Fischer was just recently endorsed by former Ohio Attorney General, Betty Montgomery.
