City Of Zanesville Receives Large Grant From The United States Environment Protection Agency

As part of Mayor Tilton’s work and desire to drive neighborhood redevelopment, there was discussion at council about the amount of under performing and under utilized properties within the county.

Public Service Director, Jay Bennett, said that last Friday they received a grant worth $550,000.

“This grant would provide a source of revenue for properties within the county that were classified as brownfield sights that would need to be examined. This gives us money to then look at all of the hazardous waste as an option if a property owner wanted to have their property assessed,” Bennett said.

Bennett said he thinks this would ultimately make all of the under utilized properties within the county more appealing to investors for future development.

“I think that it’s an opportunity to show to investors that we have properties that are open for business,” Bennett said.
