City of Zanesville’s New Trash Truck

ZANESVILLE, OH – The City of Zanesville’s Sanitation Department is getting an upgrade.

The city recently purchased a new trash truck with the hopes to improve safety for workers as well as motorists.

Mayor of Zanesville Don Mason, said this new truck features an arm with large pincers to lift the trash can up and into the truck.

Mayor Mason also says only customers with the City of Zanesville Sanitation will be able to have their trash picked up by the new truck.

“The idea is that, by using a trash truck that actually has this ability to grab the can and dump it, it’ll make a quicker time for pick up of trash,” Mayor Mason explained, “It’ll also be safer for employees, a lot of times now employees are on busy streets, and this will take care of that, but the other thing is it will reduce the workers comp claims and other injuries that come from just toting these big, 96 gallon containers.”

Mason said that you can expect to see the new truck in action beginning on Nov. 18th. He said if you do not already have a 65 gallon or 96 gallon trash can from the city; you can call in and request one, free of charge.

Mason also added that he wants to make the city a cleaner and healthier place for those who live, work and play here.

“In the past before we started using the 96 gallon [cans], we would have a lot of trash on the streets after pick up because people would put boxes and bags out,” Mason said. “Quite frankly, racoons and other animals would find their way into [the trash] and tear it up. By using the 96 gallon containers, we’ll be able to keep our trash in the containers, in our trucks, and not in the street.”

Mayor Mason said there will also be a regular trash truck out and about in addition to the new one. If you are in need of a trash can or for more information, you can call the City of Zanesville’s Sanitation Department at (740)-455-0626.
