Clean-up Continues in Hebron After Major Flooding

Residents in Hebron are cleaning up and drying out after Thursday’s flash flood.

Some yards and cornfields remain underwater after a severe thunderstorm dumped heavy rains and hail in the city.

Chuck Suitor spent the day pumping water out of the basement of his High Street Home.

He said he has never seen flooding this bad in the city.

"We had hail here for about an hour and a half, and it was pretty bad. that’s the worst I’ve seen it in the 12 years we’ve been here. Right now it’s flooding you can take a look in the yard and all that, I mean, there’s a lot of water I’m pumping out right now, so it’s pretty bad," said Suitor.

Even members of the Hebron fire department weren’t immune from the flooding.

The flood waters soaked and destroyed carpeting in at the Fire Station.

Fire Chief Randy Weekly said while flooding is common, the smell that lingers after the waters recede is the worst part.

"It was just basically, maybe, it wasn’t even ankle-deep it was maybe 2 or 3 inches on the floor," said Weekly.  "You can smell the moldiness in the air, you know just the dampness and stuff like that."

Chief Weekly said renovation plans were already in the works for the firehouse, but those plans have not been completed.
