Coalition For A Healthy Drug Free Muskingum

Muskingum Behavioral Health is creating a new coalition that will be modeled after a successful drug free coalition in Cincinnati.

The new coalition for Healthy Drug Free Muskingum held their first meeting in December. According to the Director of Muskingum Behavioral Health, Steve Carrel, the first steps to building a successful coalition is the planning process.

“So what we’re doing is we’re teaming up with the coalition from Cincinnati and they’re our mentor. Right now we’re gathering information about drug related issues here in Muskingum County, and then from that a master plan will be developed from that. Then the coalition would break up into groups and focus on whatever those areas are.”

The ultimate goal for the new coalition according to Carrel is to get everyone in the community involved.

“What we want with the coalition is we want a broad group of people within Muskingum county to work on addressing the drug problem. It’s not a Muskingum Behavioral Health thing, it’s not a Muskingum County thing, it’s not a school district thing, it’s everybody’s problem.”

To get involved in the Coalition for Healthy Drug Free Muskingum, call Muskingum Behavioral Health at (740) 454-1266 and ask for Lisa Smith the coalition coordinator.
