Commissioners Hold Investment Committee Meeting

The Muskingum County Commissioners held an investment committee meeting on Monday.

The committee is comprised of Commissioners Jerry Lavy and Jim Porter along with Muskingum County Treasurer Carol Friel.  Friel said it’s important to keep the commissioners up-to-date on the county’s investments.

"Our biggest challenge as a county is to get our real estate taxes paid, and that is the major focus of the treasurer’s office," said Friel.  "We want those real estate taxes paid, because when they get paid, then the entities that are supported by these tax dollars are getting what they deserve and what they’ve budgeted for."

Friel said the state of the economy imposes its own obstacles, but the investment committee does the best it can under a tight budget.

"We rely on interest earnings to help with our general fund, and if we’re not earning, it makes it difficult, so we have to be careful," said Friel.

The next investment committee meeting will take place in July.
