Commissioners Receive Bids for Courthouse Improvements
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – During the past year, both the City of Zanesville and the Muskingum County governments have experienced the need for increased security of their facilities.
The Muskingum County Commissioners received bids for the purchase and installment of bulletproof windows at the courthouse. Muskingum County Administrator Eric Reed discussed the need for improved security as well as the results of the bidding process.
“We opened bids today for a project to replace the current windows on the courthouse, on the entire first floor with ballistic glass as a security measure,” Reed said. “This will be a general fund capital improvement.”
Modern Glass Paint and Tile Company of Zanesville, submitted the lowest bid, which will be taken under advisement to be accepted at a later date, after project details such as fitment issues and time considerations are further looked into by a local architect.
“This project is a little bit complex, in the fact that we’re dealing with an older building and a unique structure. And with the install, these new buildings will be a little bit of structural work to do underneath as we take out the current ones and put in some new ones. And the lead time will cause the project to take a little bit longer than a normal window replacement,” Reed said.
The winning bid of $176,710 is expected to be accepted by the commissioners next week. Manufacturing and shipping time is anticipated to take 20 weeks ahead of an additional two week installation time.
