Community Pancake Day: A 76-Year Tradition Returns for Another Year

ZANESVILLE , OH- A community tradition and fundraiser is a week away.

The South Zanesville Fire Department will be hosting Community Pancake Day on November 15th from 6 AM to 7 PM at Secrest Auditorium. Tickets are $10 and on Pancake Day you have the option to dine in, drive-thru, or pick up a to go order. 

“Pancake Day was started about 76 years ago by Sertoma, or Service to Mankind,” explained South Zanesville Fire Chief Russell Taylor. “With the events of COVID however, Sertoma handed it down to the South Zanesville Fire Department. We then brought in the Working Wonder Women to help us keep this going in the community.”

Keely Warden,the Executive Director at Christ’s Table, said the reason they keep holding this event is because it has become a tradition for many community members.

“It’s a tradition that I think spans about 5 generations,” Warden said. “I always say the neat thing about Pancake Day is that it doesn’t matter what side of the river or what side of the railroad tracks you live on, everybody comes to Community Pancake Day.”
