Community Steps Up to Keep Christ’s Table Serving

ZANESVILLE, OH – It’s been a busy time for one local non-profit.
As we reported last week, Christ’s Table is currently in the middle of renovating the front of their building.
Keely Warden, the Executive Director, says the day they began the renovations, the cooler that is vital in helping prepare all of the meals for community members met an untimely end.
“Our cooler has shown some wear, we knew it needed some work, we had been nursing it along but it was going to be a major repair that was going to be $10,000 to $12,000, that’s a lot for Christ’s Table, that’s a lot of food and in the middle of our need to continue to feed people.” Warden said. “As you do at home sometimes, you keep putting things off and putting that little band aid, that fix, on it. When the band aid doesn’t hold back, you need to repair.”
Warden says they needed to put in a new compressor condenser in their cooler and it was going to cost about $10,000 just for the parts alone.
She says they made some calls to RDI Services as well as to Thorne Heating and Cooling to see what they could do to help them out.
Warden says they donated their time and within 24 hours of installing the new condenser, everything was back to normal; she says another surprise came when she went to take care of the hefty bill.
“In the middle of all of this, I get a phone call from Doug at the Eagles and he said Keely, I’ve got a check up here for you. Can you come up and pick it up?.” Warden said. “Pretty quickly I did, explained to him where we were and he said, well I can’t give you $10K, but I can give you $5,000. Within 24 hours my dear friend Gary from the American Legion called and said, hey, I heard you’ve got you back up against the wall, I can’t give you $10K but I can give you $5K. You put 5 and 5 together, it makes 10 and the bill was paid.”
Warden once again expressed her gratitude for everyone that came together to keep the Table up and running for those who need it the most.
