Conley Pleads Not-Guilty to 12 Counts
The 18-year-old accused of shooting a Zanesville Police Officer and seriously injuring his K-9 partner appeared in Muskingum County Common Pleas Court Wednesday.
Dominick Conley pled not-guilty today to 12 felony counts including: assault on a peace officer, assault on a police dog, aggravated burglary, two counts of kidnapping and six counts of abduction. All of those counts come with gun specifications. He’s also charged with tampering with evidence.
During the arraignment Conley’s attorney requested Conley be transferred from Washington County Jail to Muskingum County Jail, so that his girlfriend and foster mother could visit him.
“To try and visit with him it takes essentially an hour-and-a-half there, an hour-and-a-half back. He also has a foster mother, who I have talked with this morning, she lives in Canton. She is disabled and in her own right suffers from a rather egregious illness, which limits her ability to travel. Canton is certainly closer to Muskingum County than somewhere else,” says Jerry McHenry, assistant public defender.
After consulting with the prosecutor and public defender Judge Kelly Cottrill decided Conley will remain in Washington County and continued his bond at $2 million.
Conley is accused of shooting officer Mike Schiele and his K-9 partner Bosco August 23rd when Schiele was attempting to serve a misdemeanor warrant. Authorities say after the shootings Conley carjacked a woman, committed burglary and then held six people at gunpoint.
If convicted on all counts he faces 106.5 years in prison.
