Council Discusses Fire Capital Projects Fund
Zanesville City Council held their first meeting for the month of July Monday evening.
An ordinance regarding the Fire Capital Projects Fund was up for a first reading. Public Safety Director, Fred Buck told us more about the history behind it.
“This fund is going to be established to allow the money that is received from the rent of the Fairview Road building to go directly into a Fire Capital Fund.”
The Fairview Road building was originally intended to be used as a fire station. Buck said the current demographics put the building too far north to be of use for the fire station. Buck said they want to be able to let the fund grow over the years so that the Zanesville Fire Department can use the money for a variety of different things.
“They could purchase property. They could build an additional station. You know, I know it wont build it all but it will go a long ways into paying for whatever. If we get a bond for it.” Said Buck, “Trucks, equipment. You know, just day to day safety equipment for the guys.”
Buck said they anticipate needing the building as a fire station in the future when the City grows, hence the city’s decision to keep the building rather than selling it off. The ordinance passed through the first reading Monday evening and will be up for second reading next meeting.
