Crowded Roadways Expected
3.8 million Ohioans will join the 98.6 million Americans traveling over the year-end holiday season, which starts a week from today and stretches into early January.
Triple A said this is an increase of five percent in Ohio and four percent nationally and marks the highest travel volume for this holiday period on record.
Three reasons for the increase include an increased consumer confidence due to economic improvements, higher disposable income due to lower gas prices and a longer holiday travel period.
This holiday season has 13 travel days, one day longer than last year’s holiday travel season and the longest since 2008.
92 percent Ohioans will travel by car and 4.7 percent in Ohio will travel by air, the highest number since 2004.
