Crowds Gather Downtown To Salute Veterans
American heroes walked the streets of Zanesville today.
Young and old lined the streets and waved their flags for the Veteran’s Day Parade. This year’s theme was "Salute Our Veterans" and veterans like Shawn McConnell feel it is important to honor them.
"In a country like ours, it is important that we remember the sacrifices it took in order to give us the liberties and freedoms we have," says U.S. Air Force veteran Shawn McConnell.
School bands also took part in the parade and played some patriotic tunes. Local Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops threw candy by the handful to bystanders. Seeing young children take part in the parade warms the heart of women like Beth Burton.
"I love to see all the people and all the kids, it is great to see so many kids out here because I think we need to teach our younger generation how important it is to honor our country and our veterans," says Burton, who is the daughter of a veteran.
The Veteran’s Day Parade will be re-broadcast this Monday, November 9th, at 7 pm and Wednesday, November 11th, at noon on WHIZ-TV.
