Day 2 of ‘Pottery Lovers Week’ in Muskingum County

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – America’s longest running pottery gathering is now underway in our area.
It’s day two of the 2016 ‘Pottery Lovers Week.’ Alva Richardson is a collector, buyer, seller and trader of pottery and has been a part of this event for nearly 30 years. Richardson said this is something that once it gets in your blood that you just can’t get out.
"You keep collecting and buying, collecting and selling and trading it’s something that you really enjoy doing," said Richardson. "In fact it’s a lost art. If you look at some of the pieces in the motel here that artist that did the work is tremendous. Japan and china could not reproduce anything like that."
Richardson has a large variety of pottery in his display room at the Holiday Inn Express and said his main collection is Weller Pottery.
"I do have a piece in my collection that Sam Weller made himself on a kick wheel for Louis Tiffany of Tiffany of New York. I got that from a stock broker and it’s something that I ‘ll have forever" said Richardson.
‘Pottery Lovers Week’ will go on until Saturday. For a complete list of pottery week events, visit: potterylovers.org.
