DeGenero takes gold at New Balance Nationals
GREENSBORO, NC – Micaela DeGenero tasted gold at Jesse Owens Stadium earlier this month, but wasn’t satisfied by merely winning an Ohio state championship.
The recent Granville graduate upped the ante by taking first in the 1,600 at the New Balance Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina on Sunday.
DeGenero saved her best effort for the end of the race, running the final 800 in 2:18 and making the move from fourth to first. Her winning time of 4:42.22 was nearly 11 seconds faster than her state-winning time on June 4.
DeGenero’s teammate, Natalie Price, earned more national recognition for the Aces by finishing 10th in the 400. Price won state in the same event, adding to a banner year for Granville girls track.
