Digging out of winter weather

2018.01.08 Digging Out

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The day started off with a snowy mess and while some people got the day off others still had to report to work.

Several schools and businesses closed today in anticipation of the snowfall. The temperature is higher compared to last week, but the ground was still cold making the roads icy. Rod Darner a Building Maintenance Specialist at Zane State College said he left for work early this morning before things got too bad and that part of his job is making the school safe for students.

“The drive in was not too bad. I was a little leery of the ice on the gravel, but it wasn’t bad at all really. I only come 10 miles so,” said Darner. “We have a whole grounds crew that are supposed to be out working – I assume they are. And we just try to keep things safe for the students.”

Darner isn’t the only one who had to brave the roads to get to work this morning. Cassie Butler, a Rural Carrier for the Post Office, agreed with Darner the roads aren’t too bad, but clearing them can make it a bit harder for her to do her job.

“It’s not too bad today, I don’t think. It looks like they’ve done a good job cleaning the roads off. The biggest part for me is the snow plows that push up in front of the mailboxes,” said Butler. “That’s hard for me to get in and out of, but it looks pretty good today.”

Muskingum County is under a winter weather advisory until tomorrow morning.
