ZANESVILLE, OH- In celebration of Asian and Pacific Islanders Month, the John McIntire Library is set to host an event celebrating the rich history and cultural impact of manga.

Manga is a Japanese art form that has captivated audiences worldwide. From its origins in ancient Japanese art to its current status as a global cultural phenomenon, Manga has continually evolved, influencing and being influenced by various cultures.

“This is gonna be in celebration of Asian and Pacific Islanders Month, we are hosting the History of Manga program, it’s going to be led by Dr. Kay Clopton, an expert manga researcher, she will lead us through the evolution, cultural impact and the artistic significance of Manga,” Alyssa Fisher, a librarian at the John McIntire Library said.

The program will dive into the various genres of manga, its artistic styles, and its influence on global pop culture. Attendees will gain insights into how Manga has become a medium for storytelling for all ages and backgrounds.

“It’s going to be downstairs in our auditorium, so it’s going to be very spacious and have lots of room for people to spread out, and they can expect to meet other people who might be interested in manga, or curious, so it’d be a great way for them to connect and engage with other people who might have similar interests, and they’ll get to have a lot of information given to them about Manga,” Fisher said.

The event will take place on Friday, May 31, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the John McIntire Library’s Auditorium. For more information visit muskingumlibrary.org under their events tab.
