Dog License Deadline

The clock is ticking for those who still need to get dog licenses for the year 2010.

Muskingum County Auditor Anita Adams said the Feb. 1 deadline is fast approaching.

"If licenses are not purchased by that time for a dog you own that is over three months of age, the price doubles," said Adams. "The penalty for not purchasing on time is an additional $10."

Money raised from the dog licenses will go to the local pound and could help your dog if it becomes lost.

"It is like a lost dog’s ticket home," she said. "If they have that tag on them, it’s a way for them to identify who the owner is and where they belong. We can quickly get the dog reunited with it’s owner."

Adams reminds pet owners that if dogs are found running around at large without a tag, you can be fined for not licensing the dog.

There are plenty of places around town to get the licenses.
