Dogzville enforces park rules

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Zanesville’s first dog park has been a hit with the four legged friends– but some visitors have been bad to the bone by ignoring the rules.
At each entrance of the Riverside Dogzville Park is a set of 14 rules that were posted to keep the dogs and owners safe. However, not everyone has been abiding by them; which could create a conflict between the pups.

Mike Alfman, Winerak Market owner and Dogzville volunteer, advised against bringing toys or snacks into the park.
“When you throw a ball in the middle of 20 dogs, it’s not always a good situation,” said Alfman. “You know you just have to use some common sense and things you may not think about when you’re playing with your dog in your backyard its not the same as when you come into the dog park.”
Alfman said these measures are preventative so the park can stay open and enjoyed by all.
“We’ve had no major incidents here at the park. I mean you’re going to have dogs act up just like you’re kids may act up at Kidzville. You know they all have different temperaments and we just have to watch that there’s no aggressive things that happen in the park. We don’t want a bad thing to happen,” said Alfman.
A new addition to the park was a walking path donated by Sidwell Materials. The park will also be getting benches and trees for shade in the coming weeks.
And for those dog lovers, Alfman said Winerak Market will be hosting their 2nd Annual Par for Pups Golf Scramble. It will take place on June 3rd at Crystal Springs Golf Course.
All proceeds raised from the event will be donated to help fund a new Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center. To register, or for more information, contact Mike Alfman at (740) 607-0578 or stop into the Winerak Market at 2336 Maple Avenue.
