Donald L. Stahl, 94, of Zanesville, died at 10:46 PM Thursday, September 25, 2014, at the Morrison House, under Hospice care.
Born on July 10, 1920, in Massillon, Ohio, Don was the only child of Lee and Flossie Culler Stahl.
As a high school senior, he was captain of the football, basketball, and baseball teams at Dalton High School. He went on to graduate from Muskingum College in 1943, where he was active in all sports.
In 1945, Don came to Zanesville where he began his teaching and coaching career for the Zanesville City Schools. In his 34 seasons as a coach, his teams never had a losing season, which he credited to his players. Among his other many accolades, Don started the Jaycee Park summer baseball program in 1948. He was also an active member of First Christian Church and served as President of the Zanesville Tip-off Club for 19 consecutive years.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Thelma “Nan” Fenwick Stahl, daughters, Joyce (Dennie) Haddox, Jeri (John) Power, both of Zanesville, Pat (Don) Smart of Fresno, California, and Lynne (Larry) Hollingshead of Lebanon,Ohio. Grandchildren include, Mike (Kerry) Haddox, Mindy (Greg) Waite, Michelle (Lowell) Body, Marty (Thalia) Haddox, Marcie (John) Fondale, Pam (Rick) McFerren, Tam (Kent) Ramsey, Shawn (April) Power, Amy (Brian) Thornton, David (Cary) Smart, Susan (Jay) Hardy, Todd (Stacie) Smart, Wendy (Troy) Franklin, Susan (Matt) Heckaman, Dan (Alex) Hollingshead, and Dave (Kim) Hollingshead. Great-grandchildren include, Korey (Alexis), Kodey, Kade, and Kallen Haddox, Coulton and Ali Waite, Andrew and Alaina Body, Angelo and Evangelena Haddox, Cassi, Caleb, and Caiti McFerren, Jay (Jessica), Mitch, Cece, and Heather Ramsey, Jocelyn and Devin Power, Allissa, Drew, Tyler, and Chase Thornton, Madison, Sierra, Skye, and Bryce Hardy, Sydnie Smart, Morgan and Trent Franklin, Will Heckaman, his “little buddy”, Ryan Weaver (whom he loved like a grandson), and Don’s beloved four-legged friend, JoJo.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Martha (Mock) Stahl, son, Gary Stahl, and grandson, Eli Stahl.

Visitation will be held from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM on Monday, September 29, 2014, at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Avenue. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the First Christian Church (corner of Dresden and Military Roads) with Pastor Dawn Remster officiating. Additional calling hours will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM preceding the service. He will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery on Military Road.
